This weekend was our last Trunk Show for the Spring/Summer season at Henri Bendel.
It’s always so much fun to meet lovely people and make new friends. Thanks to Raysa for always cheering us up and showing us the most amazing jewelry from Bagdley Mishka...I can’t wait to get a hold on those coral earrings!
Judith Haas and Mai Florez, ladies always a pleasure to see you and drool over your beautiful jewelry…You are natural models too!.
And our “carina” Francesca Mondello, she designs the most amazing sunglasses, entirely handmade in Italy with 400 UV protection. Girl, thanks for finding us the perfect sunglasses…and doesn’t she look cute on our Chain scarf!!!
That’s it for now, we will be back at Bendel’s for Fall 2010 and look forward to see you all there.
Elizabeth finally arrived to New York, stayed for over two weeks ( no wonder I’ve been a bit out of the loop). I was so excited for her, it was her first time here during the summer and we had a long list of things to do…and did!!
Starting with an evening at the Met’s terrace, seeing the sunset over Central Park, building’s lights starting to glow and loosing ourselves over New York’s skyline.
Michelle & Elizabeth want to wish all mums a very happy day this year…and
want to share their special picks for a great gift:
“My Mum is my ultimate style inspiration, through the 70’s to the 80’s and even 90’s, she was daring to try and experiment with all the trends, the coolest Mum in the playground. I love her vinatge knits pieces, that I would borrow without her noticing… the Knitted Oversize Tee is my favorite piece and I know she will ROCK wearing it this Summer”
Michelle, Head Designer in New York, USA.
“I love to be offered handmade gifts that are unique, that is why some of my favorite pieces for this Summer are the Stripe scarves in Pima cotton and the Crochet berets & Quipu scarves. Love the texture and color in these, they are fresh & playful and very personal.”
Elizabeth, Head Designer in Lima, Peru.

It’s Earth week in NYC, there’s lots of celebrations to create awareness and I wanted to write about “Pachamama” which is Mother Earth for the people in the Andes. She is a goddess revered by the indigenous people. Pachamama is usually translated as “Mother Earth” but a more literal translation would be “Mother world” (in Aymara and Quechua mama = mother / pacha = world or land.
In Inca mythology, Mama Pacha or Pachamama is a fertility goddess who presides over planting and harvesting. She causes earthquakes. Her husband was either Pacha Camac or Inti, depending on the source. Pachamama is a “good mother”, people toast to her honor before every meeting or festivity, in some regions by spilling a small amount of chicha on the floor, before drinking the rest.
I love mythology, for me it all makes sense. How they revered and honored Nature, how they understood and respected the balance between Man and Earth.
Anyway, loved these colorful images I found and also check this artist’s website for more drawings on Peru.
Five years ago in a trip we made through the coast of Peru, I was mesmerized by the textures of the desert coast of my own country. We encountered sand, dark green waters, rocks, ancient pyramids made of adobe that stood solemn but almost gone. This is Peru’s coast: rich in sea life, minerals and ancient cities.
But it’s also very colorful, in the valleys were the rivers flow and the land is fertile…
And for that, I want to also share a song that I love for it’s sound and joy but most important, because it’s my brother’s song. Spring Lover’s Song ( si tu quieres) by “Franzua” Peglau.
After finding the right materials and recreating our favorite textures and stitches for warmer weather I am proud to present Hortensia’s first Spring collection. Functional oversized tunics and tees, chain scarves, berets & headbands that I’m sure I will be seeing a lot of you wearing this summer…
The collection will be available for now at our online shop, only by pre-order. And we are giving a 15% discount and complimentary shipping on all pieces. So hurry up because it’s limited edition and you want to make sure you are one of the lucky few!
I will be also posting a style every week with tips on how to wear it, along with an inside scoop on the process of creating the piece and the inspiration. Hope you enjoy it and love to hear your comments!
